Avatar statues
Many months ago I put a deposit on a Jake Sully polystone figure, and it will be shipping soon if I commit to buying it (the price is still something to consider). I wondered if anyone else had looked at these recently.

Re: Avatar statues
Nice. Reminds me of that Neytiri one I bought way back in 2011.

Re: Avatar statues
Those sideshow statues are just awesome - I like the Jake one. Even more than the Neytiri versions, somehow I'm still stumbling over Neytiri's hairline.
But the prices are "awesome" too :/

Re: Avatar statues
Got the email that mine will be processing today.
I'm excited though still I wish that they would have made it just a regular Jake like drawing his bow back in a hunting stance to go along with the Neytiri. The regular versions as statues and the war paint versions as Hot Toys 1/6 scale. They better make war paint Neytiri.

Re: Avatar statues
It would be nice to have a war paint Neytiri or a "natural" Jake, but I would be glad to have at least some version of both character (I also have the Sideshow Neytiri statue from back in 2011). One thing that gets me about this statue, and makes me interested to see it in person, is how much the war paint sticks out. Just looking at the pics it seems a bit unnatural.

Re: Avatar statues
I got my Jake figure in yesterday. He's pretty awesome. I really like the dynamic pose he's in. But like Tsatu said the war paint is a little too vibrant and crisp on the edges.
I just may have to fix that.

Re: Avatar statues
Awesome! I love the expression on the face... but is the warpaint really black and gold? Shouldn't it be a dark yellow instead? I've checked the shots out of the movie, but the paint didn't look that metallic to me.

Re: Avatar statues
Another thing: I knwo the makers are differentbut should the difference in the colour of hte loincloth really be that big? I mean green vs. 'beige' is quite a bit - even if the fabric and all is from different origins.
Just asking.

Re: Avatar statues
I just tried to find out the real colour of that loincloth - gee, I miss our screenshot archive! Do you think there's a single screenie out there that shows the final battle? Or I'm just too stupid to find it...
I just don't understand it. There are many statues out there and they are awesome. This one for example, I like the expression and the pose, it's completely "gone wild". But then the makers fail at some tiny detail that wouldn't have taken them much effort to get right :/

Re: Avatar statues
I'm sorry to answer just now (was watching something about Leonardo on TV).
Let's see what I got.

Edit: So the loincloth itself is a kind of soft, slightly dark green ('mossy' if you want), the 'belt' is more blueish and the beads are a light wood-tone (clay or beige). Conclusion: both versions are not completely correct.
Kiy's right: It makes you ownder how they put so much energy in such projects and simply oversee some of the more obvious details.
I tried to upload what I got (which is way more than I remember), but it turned out I can't, as the photos are 'too big' - is there any possibility to change that or do I have to downsize them ?

Re: Avatar statues
Yeah there's definitely going to be some fixes on mine. I'm going to dry brush the edges of the war paint to make it more natural looking and the face needs some detail work. I mean they didn't even paint the under part of his nose. Really? Sideshow despite their awesomeness can be lame sometimes.

Wow. Totally awesome, Spud.
Now I wish I had one, or the money to buy it. :/

They should employ people like Spud as project managers or at least put them in charge of quality control.

Well thank you flighter, it means a lot.
I've always taken pride in my talents and gradually honed my techniques and I'm always looking at little things to see what I could use them for on a figure. Its an obsession. But I love it. haha

Re: Avatar statues
And you're doing great with that - I second what flighter said, have said the same thing before: All those companies would be off a lot better if they had someone like Spud doing the QA on those figures and statues.

Re: Avatar statues
Is this one virtually the same size as the Hot Toys Jake, in the picture I cant quite tell since Hot Toys is Jake is behind?
Looks pretty sweet I may have to change my mind and pick one up, I just am still wishing and waiting for that Hot Toys War Paint Neytiri as well, cant believe they only made one figure!
I finally got my Legacy Neytiri a few weeks back, love her, am def picking up the Neytiri bust as well, however they keep doing the normal Sideshow thing and pushing her release date back every month. After Christmas shopping is done if I have the funds I'll have to get a Jake as well.

Re: Avatar statues
Yeah the Sideshow Neytiri, Sideshow Jake, and Hot Toys Jake are all about the same scale which is 1/6th. I'm with you on the War Paint Neytiri. It better happen or I will riot!
I got confirmation that my Neytiri bust will be shipping out around the 6th. I was getting pretty tired of the pushbacks too. But it'll be worth the wait for sure.

Re: Avatar statues
Oh thanks for letting me know that she is finally coming, going to get my preorder in so I dont miss out!
I wish sideshow used the "glass" eyes like on the HT Jake, it really makes them pop in a way that paint only cant do.

Re: Avatar statues
Yeah I'm with you there. It would have been cool if Hot Toys had put the movable eyes in the Jake figure like the newest Batman and Joker figures have. It's freaking cool.
Nice avatar by the way.
