So what brings you here?

Post by sunnyside »

I'm new here (used to be on Naviblue though).

This long after the movie, I'm curious what brings you to this forum and keeps you around.

I guess that could also go for staying in Avatar fandom in general. What about it keeps its hooks in you?

For me it's not just what a cool movie Avatar is, but the people who have also enjoyed the movie. The diversity of their lives and their points of view show us just how much we do have in common as humans and how much we would love to make this world a better place. I can hardly wait for the new movies to show all of us a new dimension of Pandora and the Navi so we can all share in their lives and their world.

Its everything that Avatar embodies. The messages about nature and the beauty of it all. And the history with NB and its followers. :)

More or less what Lrr and Spud said :)

NB and the people there are a special bunch... and that fits well with a special movie.

I think I can safely say that it all completely changed my life.

To me, avatar fans seem to be a lot more sane than most of people we see every day and that is what keeps me here, apart from maintaining this site. Did it change my life completely? Well, not really. But for the first time in my life, after watching Avatar, I was like "Hey, this is so damn good, I wish they make some sequels!". Days later, I was suffering from mild withdrawals symptoms (lol), so I stumbled upon the original naviblue, and I liked most of it. Years later, it went permanently offline and was that way for months, so Seth opened something on a free server, but it was full of adverts so we moved to my private server. The rest is history :)

I am here because I like the people participating in it... :)

I hung around the original NaviBlue because of the movie, but then once the movie had run its course I stayed because I really got into role playing. I did that on NaviBlue for a while until a lot of the role play threads starting dying out because people were leaving.

I guess now I hang around to see what everyone's been up to and if anyone has any interesting information on the sequels.

Talking of this... is there any feature experienced and other members would like to have here, or something they think would attract more old or new members?

I agree with Ki that Avatar and the whole experience completely changed my life. In the best of ways. :)

What brought me here? The demise of Naviblue of course, and the hope of staying in contact with the really interesting people that I met there. The golden days of Naviblue were packed full of good times, hilarious dubs, shenanigans and great company. It's too bad that we've lost contact with so many of the friends we made that first year after Avatar, and I'm guilty myself of not having as much time to hang out in the forums the last couple of years, but I'm glad that this site has risen from the ashes of our old hometree, Naviblue. Avatar is still a small part of my daily life, whether it's sipping my morning coffee in an Avatar mug, glancing at the Sideshow Neytiri or Hot Toys Jake collectibles in the living room, or going in to my work on a weekend with a friend or co-worker who still hasn't seen Avatar yet so they can experience it in 3D. Sure, over the years the viewings of Avatar have dwindled from weekly, to monthly, to once every 5 or 6 months, but damn, that movie is still just as entertaining every time I see it (although I wish there was a 90min version for when you want a quick fix). :hehe:

That could be arranged, lol, but it would be a blasphemy to cut out any part of the movie in order to fit into 90 minutes space ;)

Cutting the movie down to just the scenes that Neytiri is in would work for me. :hee:

I had been on Naviblue for about two years until it had stability issues.

But I loved the avatar movie, and even before I joined Naviblue, I was always checking the site, seeing what was new, who was posting, and what they were posting about. I finally got around to joining Naviblue because it seemed the friendliest of all the JC Avatar sites.

I definitely do not regret my decision.
